Maureen Vickery, Calligrapher & Freehand Engraver

Maureen has been involved in the calligraphic arts since she was 11 years old, when her mother bought Maureen her first calligraphy book (she still owns this book plus hundreds of others!). After taking private calligraphy lessons in 1991 to address her own wedding invitations, Maureen soon received requests from her friends to address their invitations as well.

Maureen's calligraphy services blossomed into a part-time vocation as she worked full-time as a technical writer and information architect. Over the years, Maureen has attended numerous workshops and calligraphy conferences, studying with nationally-and internationally-renowned calligraphy instructors. She continues to take classes several times per year to improve and expand her lettering skills as well as network with other professional calligraphers from around the country.

In 1996, the demands for her calligraphy services increased to the point where Maureen was able to exit corporate America and begin working as a full-time calligrapher and engraver. She enjoys helping brides fulfill their dreams of using hand lettering to create elegant stationery, place cards, and engraved gifts for their weddings.

Letter Arts Review featured Maureen's pointed pen motifs in their Summer 2005 wedding issue.

Samples of her calligraphy and engraving were featured in the 2004 issue of Weddings in Houston magazine. 

Maureen also wrote “Etching a Path with Pillar Candles and Painted Glass” that was published in the September/October 2002 issue of Expression magazine.

Maureen's calligraphy was featured in the Spring/Summer issue of Brides Houston magazine.

ACE is a professional association of freehand engravers who provide high quality engraving services to department stores, specialty gift shops, wineries, country clubs, corporate and individual clients. Other ACE Engravers are located in Detroit, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Boston, and Washington, D.C.

Engraving Events

Maureen works in department stores prior to Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and Christmas, hand-engraving names, monograms, and custom messages on fragrance bottles and makeup compacts. It's almost like "performance art" to hand engrave gifts while customers are watching!

Maureen and her husband Don have been married 16 years and have two sons. They share their home studio with two Italian Greyhounds, Twyla and Ziegfeld.

PenDance is currently listed on the vendor lists for The Social Book, The Houstonian, the St. Regis Hotel, and in Houston's Paper City Magazine's Blue Book.

PenDance has provided services to Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Stanley Korshak, Dillards, Macys, Lady Primroses, Estee Lauder, the Houston Grand Opera, the St. Regis Hotel, the Toyota Center, Jackson & Company, Swift + Company, and many stationers, event planners, and wedding consultants in Houston as well as nationwide.
